Neomycin has a spectrum affecting mainly gram-negative bacteria.
It is absorbed to the extent of about 3% of an oral dose so systemic infections cannot be treated by orally administered neomycin.
The oral administration of neomycin is convenient and safe way for treating enteric infections due to gram-negative organisms.
Indications:
Neomycin is used for treatment and prevention of infectious diseases enteritis caused by gram - negative germs (E. Coli, Salmonella, Klebsiella Enterobacter, Proteus and Acinobactor spp) in poultry, and for treatment of enterotoxemia in lambs.
Dosage and administration:
Poultry:100 gm / 200 liters of drinking water for 3-5 days.
Large animals: 0.5 gm / 10 kg of body weight for 3-5 days.
Withdrawal period:
Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption before 7 days from the last treatment.
