Neomycin has a spectrum affecting mainly gram-negative bacteria.
It is absorbed to the extent of about 3% of an oral dose so systemic infections cannot be treated by orally administered neomycin.
The oral administration of neomycin is convenient and safe way for treating enteric infections due to gram-negative organisms.
Indications:
Neomycin is used for treatment and prevention of Enteritis and Diarrhea cused by E.Coli, Salmonella,Klebsiella and other bacteria sensitive to Neomycin in Poultry and large animals.
Dosage and administration:
Poultry : 20 gm / 200 liters of drinking water (11mg/kg b.w) for 3-5 days
or 230 gm /ton feed for 3-5 days
Large animals : 1 gm / 50 kg of body weight for 3-5 days.
