Florfenicol is a derivative of thiamphenicol . It is a bacteriostatic antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomal subunits of susceptible bacteria leading to inhibition of protein formation.
Indications:
Treatment of infections caused by E.coli strains, and strains susceptible to florfenicol.
The presence of disease should be established in the herd before initiating treatment.
Dosage and administration:
Use in drinking water. Dosage: 20 mg of florfenicol/kg b.wt/day. (equivalent to 0.2 ml product/kg b.wt/day) The duration of treatment is 5 consecutive days.
Withdrawal period:
Meat and offal: 8 days.
Contraindications:
Not to be use in birds producing or intended to produce eggs for human consumption.
